Our wonderful Maddi has finished working with Whalesong and has moved back into the health industry. We’ve loved having Maddi on board the team and will miss her smiling face around the marina. Here’s what she’s said about her time with Whalesong…
“I began my journey with Whalesong Cruises just as the 2022 whale season was kicking off. As a Sales and Reservations Assistant it was my job to handle cruise bookings and enquiries, answer questions, and sometimes to simply to give our passengers reassurance that all their cruising needs would be well taken care of by our wonderful and professional team. Plus, to annoy the crew on a daily basis.
Before starting with Whalesong Cruises I had found myself at a point in my working life where I needed a fresh start. I was looking to try something totally different and exciting. Growing up in Hervey Bay, I had often thought about how amazing it would be to work for a whale watching company, so when I was given the opportunity to work with Whalesong I couldn’t wait to get started.
I have learned so much over the last eight months — both about the whale watching industry and about the Humpback Whales themselves. I can tell you when the best time to see the whales is; and I can tell you that the boat doesn’t pick you up from the office. I know that the whales don’t ‘dance’ when we ask them to; and that there is a strong language barrier in which, to some, the word “whales” is interpreted as “goldfish”.
I have also learnt just how busy this business can be. I now truly understand why they say there’s ‘no rest for the wicked’ during the whale season. Bec has taught me everything I now know about this industry, and I cannot thank her enough for all she has done for me. I feel extremely grateful that I was given the opportunity to work with Whalesong Cruises. (“Full Stop, New Paragraph”)
Whalesong Cruises has been such a positive environment to work in. The crew have become some of my closest friends. To work as part of such a supportive team has been a highlight. I truly felt like I was part of a family. I look back on our successful season and feel proud of what we accomplished together. I’ll always be grateful to have been able to work with such an amazing group of people.
It is with great sadness that unfortunately my journey is coming to an end with Whalesong Cruises, but I hope someday in the future I will be able to sit back behind the desk again and be able to create more favorable memories.
As the saying goes, “If you love what you do, you won’t work a day in your life” and that is exactly what the last eight months has felt like. I have loved every single day of this job — from the days where I laughed so much that I cried, to the more stressful ones — because providing our passengers with an unforgettable experience always made it worthwhile.
This was an experience that I will never forget.”
Thanks Maddi! We miss you already! Love, Team Whalesong! xo
